Mad cheer.

Neighborhood lights from lisab on Vimeo.

This is my official nomination for the "Paragon of Excess" Christmas Lights Award for 2008. It's like a light-eating monster ate too many, and then threw up Christmas in this front yard.  It was a drive-by, so I'm sorry about the obstacles the car itself creates.  In particular, you cannot view the seriously undecorated aspens on the east side of the yard.  More's the pity.

  3. What? No blow-ups and lots of mechanical lighted toys that move? I believe these are required for total over the top obnoxiousness. If the folks who live across from my parents are in full force this year, I will have a challenger photo for you. This is a challenge, right?

  4. I think you have sparked my holiday cheer and inspired a new tradition--documenting the lightmare! I already have a few favorites to film, but wait until you see my mom's place lit up in blue...yes, Virginia, I said BLUE...it expands with every passing year...

  5. I love to drive around and look at the lights. It's actually one of my favorite things. And that house is hilarious. I love when people go crazy and mix things. I love, for example, a Santa in the manger. Or reindeer mixing with the Wise Men. My favorite lights are the all white ones, or the trees in different colors on South Temple.
(Oh, and I love the Historian's narration. Maybe you could dub in a faux lecture style, as if he is studying a rare form of human culture: Holiday Over-decorator!)

  6. I think they had to dedicate one coal plant just to power that thing.

  7. There is a house on my street that just about has this one beat. I'll have to take a video of it with suitable commentary.

I like the "host of Santas."

Oh, and here is a new holiday greeting for you, courtesy of the City Weekly in honor of your great State Senator Buttars: "Hail Santa! Hail Santa! Hail Santa!"

  8. Excellent little documentary piece. Please post more. I think you need a whole series of Xmas light videos with commentary.
